“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.” (John 6:68-69) Some of the disciples left Jesus as they felt his word was hard because Jesus said, “Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.” At that time, no one understood this sentence which referred to Jesus establishing the sacrament of Eucharist for He never mentioned what His plan was during the Passover dinner. Peter responded, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” We may ask why Jesus did not lay out the details right away. A church father made a good elaboration, “For those who have faith will not require an explanation but only to believe; for those without faith, even with explanation they will remain in doubt.” Faith does not mean to follow blindly, but to follow the “Holy One of God”, that is Jesus himself. To follow the “Holy One of God”, we need to contact Him directly. See the description by John about how he came to know Jesus, “The next day John was there again with two of his disciples, and as he watched Jesus walk by, he said, "Behold, the Lamb of God." The two disciples heard what he said and followed Jesus. Jesus turned and saw them following him and said to them, "What are you looking for?" They said to him, "Rabbi" (which translated means Teacher), "where are you staying?" He said to them, "Come, and you will see." (John 1:35-39) At the end, they stayed with Him! The two disciples are John, son of Zebdee and Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter. The two disciples making their way to Emmaus had the following experience in coming contact with Jesus, “As they approached the village to which they were going, he gave the impression that he was going on farther. But they urged him, "Stay with us, for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over." So he went in to stay with them. And it happened that, while he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him.” (Luke 24:28-31) If John and Andrew did not visit the place where Jesus lived, or they did not invite Jesus to stay, history will probably need to be rewritten. Seize the opportunity and let Jesus enter into our hearts.
