The following section reminds us that there was another piece of scenery described in the Gospel of Luke: “After Jesus had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch." Simon said in reply, "Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing, but at your command I will lower the nets." When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish and their nets were tearing.” (Luke 5:4-6) No matter if Jesus said, “Put the net to the right” or “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch!” The disciples were happy to follow which shows a good example of obedience. The result was: a rewarding journey for both times. Not only was the reward great, Simon Peter received a promotion from Jesus as well. According to Gospel of Luke, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” (Luke 5:10) After the resurrection of Jesus, Simon Peter is still favored by Jesus, “Feed my sheep.” (John 21:17) Simon Peter was exceptionally gifted, as Jesus spoke to him personally, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” (Matthew 16:17-19) Although Peter denied Jesus for three times, it was valuable that he repented immediately. Obedience and simplicity has become the key to enter the heavenly kingdom.
