“When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had been ill for a long time, he said to him, "Do you want to be well?"” (John 5:6) After realizing there was no one helping the crippled man, Jesus said directly: “"Rise, take up your mat, and walk." (John 5:11). Jesus used different methods of curing according to various situations. But the final means of curing was for the souls. “After this Jesus found him in the temple area and said to him, "Look, you are well; do not sin anymore, so that nothing worse may happen to you." (John 5:14) People tend to be always forgetful. We’ll think of God immediately whenever we are in trouble, sometimes might even put the blame on God; but when things became well, we would left God out of our minds. No one could understand human’s behavior better than Christ. Thus Jesus gave the newly recovered man a heartfelt reminder: "Look, you are well; do not sin anymore”. Jesus also wanted us to understand though it is important of giving others material needs, it is more important to support others with spiritual needs, which is to help them to follow God. We need to have the strength to point out when others have acted against justice, against the truth, and against kindliness. Sometimes we kept our mouth shut for the worry of losing a friend. But, when we say the truth even running the risk of losing them, we have already become their true friend. Jesus had done so.
