“Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.” (Luke 5:4) According to the circumstances, it was not the time to fish as they already were washing their nets. However, Simon Peter replied, “Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing, but at your command I will lower the nets.” As a result, they caught a great number of fish. Peter fell at the knees of Jesus and said, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.” Peter might have some doubts because experience told him: How could this happen? He pleaded guilty and begged for mercy. The same thing happened when he was denied three times that he was one of Jesus’ disciples, he went out and began to weep bitterly. (See Luke 22:62) Jesus did not give up Peter for his weakness in faith, instead Jesus chose him to become the fishers of men. “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” In another occasion, Jesus also assigned Peter as the head of the Apostles. Sometimes, God’s logic is barely acceptable. However, God’s mercy is far exceeds the sins of mankind. Where there are more sins, the larger the graces received.
