"The year of Priests" will soon end and the upcoming year will be followed by "The year of the Laity".

Looking back at the past year, parish life had been taken with special care by God. The newly established Parish Pastoral Council had played its function such as the setting up of a "Tea gathering spot", "the first annual general meeting of the Parish Council" and "caroling activities" at Discovery Park.

Justin Yan Siu-kit, the Vice-Chairperson of the Parish Council has been elected as the Executive member of the H.K. Central Council of Catholic Laity.

The renovation work of the Parish has been successfully completed and the required fund over three million dollars were all sponsored by parishioners.

Father Lau Yuk Ting has retired and is living at St. Joseph's Home for the Aged Service for the Elderly. Although memory has degenerated, his health in general remains in a decent condition.

During my vacation, Three Vicar Generals of the Diocese came and hosted the masses, which was a delightful arrangement.

On Halloween, Father Thomas Law Kwok Fai voiced out the "devil comment" which created widespread excitement over a scandal. As a result of this incident, the headline "a storm was created inside a teacup" became a media sensation. This was totally unexpected by Fr. Law as honestly speaking, he was betrayed because he only spoke to a small group of people in an unofficial occasion. People who know Fr. Law understand that he is well known for bravely speaking out loud. It was unexpected that his speech had been posted on Facebook. The title was perfect gossip material for the media. When I look at the video, Fr. Law actually did not say who the devil was as he just made a metaphor on the occasion. Of course it was not appropriate to suggest such an image. "So and so is a devil" is a writing technique used by the media, therefore we should not let them lead our ideas and thoughts.

The relationship between parishioners and the priests are closely related. In order to build a healthy community, the act of mutual understanding and acceptance are essential. To act alone is not the spirit of the Gospel as Jesus asked His Church to live out the Holy Trinity as a guideline and standard.

Hopefully the year of 2011 will be one where we grow in the love of God. Do not forget to take time to the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament because without Him, we cannot accomplish anything.
