On September 25, 2010, an unknown eighteen year old teenager was beatified at Rome's Basilica of God Mercy. Her name is Chiara Luce and was born in October 29, 1971 in a small town in Northwest Italy. At 17, she was diagnosed with bone cancer. She received several operations but they were not successful. Finally she accepted to have amputation surgery. She went to Heaven in 1999. Shortly after her death, the local bishops initiated the diocesan phase of the beatification process. In the July 3, 2008, she was proclaimed "Venerable".

The beatification to become a saint surely requires special factors. The bishops of the diocese where she belonged to believed that she had great courage to accept reality and always faced her suffering and pain with happiness. No doubt she demonstrates a valuable example to young people of today.

When she was young, Chiara Luce already knew how to care for others. She always kept her toys tidy and clean, so that when the toys were sent to other children they would not be in broken pieces.

When she was in primary school, she invited a classmate to her home to celebrate Christmas, as she knew that her classmate had just lost her mother.

While she was young, she has already promised to learn from Jesus' humility in practicing God's will. When she learnt that she was suffering from cancer, her heart was filled with an unknown joyfulness. Many times, she comforted her family and friends when they came to visit her in the hospital.

With her life testimony, she influenced her doctor in charge to regain his faith and return to God's embrace.

One day, when she walked home, her mother asked her how she felt. She answered politely, "I won't answer you!" About half an hour, she talked to her mother joyfully. We believe that she may have felt moments of extreme pain while walking back home as she refused to talk in order to avoid making her mother worry about her.

She asked her mother to make her a white gown for her funeral. She said to her mother, "Please always remember that I put on the dress made by you and to meet the Lord Jesus."

During the last moment of her life, she refused the doctor's recommendation of using stronger doses of pain killer, as she preserved in offering all her pain completely in lucidity to the Lord Jesus.

Blessed Chiara Luce, please pray for us.
