“Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt.” (Matthew 2:13) The angel of the Lord appeared twice to Joseph in his dream. In his first dream the angel told him not to be afraid to take Mary into his home as his wife. This time Joseph was asked to take Mary and little Jesus to refuge in Egypt. It took a lot of confidence for Joseph to accept the above two requests. However he did not voice the slightest complaint, but chose to bear them in silence. Joseph was present during the birth of Christ, the shepherd’s visit, the circumcision, the offering of Jesus to the temple and the worship by the magi. Throughout these events he kept silent and accepted his responsibility as a foster father. Holy Mother Mary always keeps the works of God deeply in her heart. From Joseph and Mary, we learn the importance of being silent. As in silence, we can easily hear God’s voice and understand His holy will. “Joseph rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed for Egypt.” (Matthew 2:14) The obedience spirit of Joseph was immediate and without any delay. When we are sure that a job is about the will of God, we should also do it aggressively without looking back.
