“Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!” (Luke 14: 15) This statement was said by the one who sat with Jesus. He felt that sitting together with Jesus, is like the feast in heaven. Indeed, since the Word became flesh, the kingdom of heaven has begun on earth. However, Jesus used the parable of the “King’s banquet”, to point out many people do not know to cherish. Jesus was referring to the Jews, who did not trust in Him. The second group of people invited were the “Gentiles”, that is, all people (including us). A small section was added to the Gospel of Matthew: “When the king came in to meet the guests he saw a man there not dressed in a wedding garment. He said to him, 'My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?' But he was reduced to silence. Then the king said to his attendants, 'Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.' Many are invited, but few are chosen." (Matthew 22:11-14) “Wedding dress” refers to the acts of charity. For those who follow Jesus, although have the privilege of participating in the “feast of lamb” (the Holy Mass), without the acts of charity, there is no salvation. Jesus would like to see is that we are living joyfully in loving each other. Didn’t Jesus promise us that when we are gathered together in His name, He is in our midst? (c.f. Matthew 18:20)
