“Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.” (Luke 12:48) Peter was the head of the apostles; therefore Jesus’ demand on him was also high: "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" (John 21:15) The answer was definitely positive. Jesus then said to Peter: “Feed my lambs.” By the same token, if one loves more, that person’s sins are forgiven more. Let’s listen to what Jesus told Simon the Pharisee: "Do you see this woman? When I entered your house, you did not give me water for my feet, but she has bathed them with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but she has not ceased kissing my feet since the time I entered. You did not anoint my head with oil, but she anointed my feet with ointment. So I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven; hence, she has shown great love. But the one to whom little is forgiven, loves little." (Luke 7:44-47) In any case, to follow the Lord has to come from an individual’s free will. God will absolutely not force us to follow him. “Much will be required of the person entrusted with much” means that God grants us grace with no reservations in order to help us be like God. If we do not treasure this grace, it is not God who abandoned us; it is us who abandoned God.
