“Take care to guard against all greed.” (Luke 12:15) The purpose of being “Greedy” is to store up visible items. As humans are a combination of soul and body, while the physical needs are important, the needs of the soul are always overlooked. Nevertheless, for Jesus, the soul is far more important than the body’s desires as they are not comparable. The issue here is the absence of a middle way! “No one can serve two masters. He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” (Matthew 6:24) In Revelations, John made it clearly that God does not want to see human beings neither hot nor cold, for love is complete and flawless: “I know your works; I know that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. For you say, 'I am rich and affluent and have no need of anything,' and yet do not realize that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.” (Revelation 3:15-17) Please listen to the dialogue between Peter and Jesus as they illustrate that God will certainly not forget those who are generous: Peter: “We have given up everything and followed you. What will there be for us?” Jesus: “Amen, I say to you that you who have followed me, in the new age, when the Son of Man is seated on his throne of glory, will yourselves sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands for the sake of my name will receive a hundred times more, and will inherit eternal life.” (Matthew 19:27-29) As a conclusion, please listen to the advice of Jesus: “What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?” (Matthew 16:26)
