“Be afraid of…do not be afraid!” (Luke 12:5,7) “Be afraid of …the one has the power to cast into Gehenna!” means God is the master of our lives. Is God merciful? Yes. We cannot enter the love of God if our hearts are not compassionate. Therefore, we should not be afraid. God wants us to enjoy eternal life. “Even the hairs of your head have all been counted.” is the best evidence that God has not forgotten every one of us. For those who live according to justice and their conscience, God will be with them, “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life.” (John 3:36) On the contrary, those who do not believe will become far from God: “The children of God and the children of the devil are made plain; no one who fails to act in righteousness belongs to God, nor anyone who does not love his brother.” (1 John 3:10) St. Paul clearly stated that whenever humans abandon “love”, they are putting themselves into a non-righteous state. He used the word “revenge” to describe the consequence of falling into such position because people are made according to God’s image. We can say that this is a form of self-punishment. “For it is surely just on God's part to repay with afflictions those who are afflicting you, and to grant rest along with us to you who are undergoing afflictions, at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his mighty angels, in blazing fire, inflicting punishment on those who do not acknowledge God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. These will pay the penalty of eternal ruin, separated from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power. (Thessalonians 1:6-9) In our lifetime, as long as we live in “love” and live in “God’s will”, we are actually living out the lifestyle in Heaven.
