“But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.” (Luke 6:24) From the other chapters and verses in the Gospel of Luke, we can see how the scholar of the bible interpreted the consequences of being “Rich” in specific detail: “Then Jesus told them a parable: There was a rich man whose land produced a bountiful harvest. He asked himself, ‘What shall I do, for I do not have space to store my harvest?’ And he said, ‘This is what I shall do: I shall tear down my barns and build larger ones. There I shall store all my grain and other goods and I shall say to myself, “Now as for you, you have so many good things stored up for many years, rest, eat, drink, be merry!” But God said to him, ‘You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong?’ Thus will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God.” (Luke 12:16-21) People are always shortsighted; they never think about the consequences and easily sell their conscience for fame and wealth. “When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, in case they may invite you back and you have repayment.” (Luke 14:12) No wonder during the Last Super, Jesus particularly advised His disciples, “I give you a new commandment: You should love one another as I have loved you.” Just like this, Jesus unconditionally placed his own life for us and sacrificed himself in vain.
