“Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.” (John 12:24) When Andrew and Philip introduced some Greeks to Jesus, Jesus said, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.” This means that His suffering and death will bring eternal life to all mankind. Jesus viewed those who do not breathe are not really dead, but only sleeping. The real death is the death of the soul. Please refer to Luke’s record about the story of Jesus resurrecting the daughter of Jairus: “Someone from the synagogue official's house arrived and said, "Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the teacher any longer." On hearing this, Jesus answered him, "Do not be afraid; just have faith and she will be saved." When he arrived at the house he allowed no one to enter with him except Peter and John and James, and the child's father and mother. All were weeping and mourning for her, when he said, "Do not weep any longer, for she is not dead, but sleeping." And they ridiculed him, because they knew that she was dead. But he took her by the hand and called to her, "Child, arise!" Her breath returned and she immediately arose.” (Luke 8:49-55) Luke stated, “Her breath returned.” In people’s view, she was dead, however, Jesus said, “She is not dead, but sleeping.” Jesus once said to Martha, “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26) Living in God means to live in God’s love. We are living in eternal life yet on the contrary, whoever does not live in love would mean living with a dying soul. The grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, “The death” here means to put oneself aside and to live for the caring of others and for practicing God’s will.
