"O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish." (Matt 15:28) "It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs." (Matt 15:26) The wordings that Jesus used were difficult to understand, yet it was by no mean an expression of belittling people of other kind. The woman’s response was surprisingly calm, and not at all irritated, she said, "Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters." (Matt 15:27) Perhaps according to the culture at the time, Shepherd dogs and sheep were referred to as ‘one family’! Since Jesus had described the Jews as “the lost sheep of the house of Israel” (Matt 15:24), it wouldn’t be out of place to describe other people as “dogs”. Nevertheless, Jesus acknowledged the faith of the humbled woman: "O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish." (Matt 15:28) With the same faith, the woman who was afflicted with hemorrhages for twelve years also got cured. “A woman suffering hemorrhages for twelve years came up behind him and touched the tassel on his cloak. She said to herself, "If only I can touch his cloak, I shall be cured." Jesus turned around and saw her, and said, "Courage, daughter! Your faith has saved you." And from that hour the woman was cured. (Matt 9:20-22) “Jesus had said to Peter, "Have faith in God. Amen, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it shall be done for him. Therefore I tell you, all that you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours.” (Mk 11:22-24) Lord, please increase our faith!
