Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?" (John 20:15) When Jesus said to her, "Mary!", Mary of Magdala then recognized it was Jesus. The resurrected Christ was full of internal brightness; Mary’s eyes were not opened yet, therefore she could not recognize Jesus, until Jesus called her name. For Mary of Magdala, Jesus’ voice was very familiar to her. When we habitually have a relationship with Jesus, it is also not difficult to recognize Jesus’ voice in our hearts. The main reason of Mary of Magdala having the privilege of being the first witness of the resurrection of Christ was because she did not leave like the others. She was willing to stay at the tomb for a little while. It could be because of this perseverance that touched Jesus’ heart. Mary of Magdala did not live a saintly life in the past. Jesus had driven out seven evil spirits from her body. Today, she became the first witness to Jesus’ resurrection. She followed and took care of Jesus with a grateful heart, standing beside the cross, and helped bury Jesus. When Jesus was being seized, the other disciples fled everywhere! No-one else was more worthy to be the first witness to Jesus’ resurrection. Man looks at the surface; God looks at his heart.
