‘At that time Jesus said in reply, "I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. ‘(Matthew 11:25) We can look at little children as directly equivalent to pure at heart and bear no social status. Yet Jesus loved them peculiarly. As soon as Jesus was born, the Sheppard, who assumed no social positions, were being the first who were called upon to worship Him. He requested His disciple to serve every single person, including the children, the same way as they had served Him: ‘They came to Capernaum and, once inside the house, he began to ask them, "What were you arguing about on the way?" But they remained silent. They had been discussing among themselves on the way who was the greatest. Then he sat down, called the Twelve, and said to them, "If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all." Taking a child he placed it in their midst, and putting his arms around it he said to them, "Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but the one who sent me." (Mk 9:33-37) Jesus explained, in order to gain entrance to the kingdom of heaven, one need to trust fully in His mercy, the same way as children who had trusted their parents: ‘And people were bringing children to him that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this he became indignant and said to them, "Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it." Then he embraced them and blessed them, placing his hands on them. ‘(Mk 10:13-16) Before Jesus established the sacrament of Holy Communion, He washed the feet of His disciples, and then He asked them to wash each other’s feet there after, so as to convey the fullest of a heavenly feast must involved one serving one another, since that was the way how one lives in heaven. Lord Jesus, we trust in You!
