‘Stop your doubting, and believe!’ (John 20: 27) According to the Lexicon Biblicum Sinicum, ‘faith’is explained with this example: John was convinced that Jesus was the Messiah, the one sent by God, the Son of God. So Thomas responded to Jesus who appeared to him, and invited him to touch his side, ‘My Lord, and my God!’ When John and Peter found the empty tomb, ‘The disciple who had reached the tomb first (John), he saw and believed.’ John’s faith was that simple and powerful! Jesus asked Thomas not to be a doubter, but be a believer. Faith is a gift from heaven, but we still need to approach Jesus and be with him. After the death of Jesus, due to disappointment, two disciples left Jerusalem and went to Emmaus. When they were on the way to Emmaus, they saw the risen Lord. They were not able to recognize the Lord although they felt it was like a fire burning in them. They asked Jesus to stay with them when they reached Emmaus. Jesus stayed, and when he broke the bread, the two disciples recognized him. If they had never invited Jesus to stay with them, history would have been rewritten. We need to keep Jesus with us to receive the grace he gives us. Eucharistic Adoration is a solid way to keep Jesus with us.
