“I came into the world as light, so that everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness.” (John 12:46) In the Old Testament, Light symbolized blessings, life, and wisdom. In the Letters of John, Light was used to express the identity of a Christian, as they became the follower of Jesus Christ; they were already walking away from the darkness and go into the Light. “God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all.” (1John 1:5) “Whoever loves his brother remains in the light.” (1John 2:10) “But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, then we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of his Son Jesus cleanses us from all sin.” (1John 1:7) Referring to the above quotes, we can see that John had put “Light” and “Love” as identical terms. Thus he initiated by declaring officially: “Let us love one another, because love is of God; everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God.” (1John 4:7) Paul preached to the Corinthians, “Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, love is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” (1Corinthians 13:4-7) Jesus said: “Just learn from me! I’m kindness, and humble at heart”. Whenever we live out the Word of God, we will then be living in the Light!
