“Jesus walked about in the temple area on the Portico of Solomon.” (John 10:23) The Temple at the time of Jesus had been rebuilt by King Herod. Located at the outer part of the Temple was the “Court of the Gentiles”, where anyone was allowed to enter. On the north and south side of the courtyard were the beautiful “Portico of Solomon” and “Royal Portico”. The higher part of the interior courtyard was dedicated to the Jews and was divided into the “Women’s Court” and the “Jewish Court”. Then there was the “Priests’ Court”, where the altar of holocaust was located. Jesus did not linger at the “Jewish Court”, but walked about in the “Court of the Gentiles”, which shows that Jesus’ heart was linked to everyone. However, the Jews still found him and surrounded him because they questioned Jesus’ unconventional teaching. They asked, "How long are you going to keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly." Jesus answered them affirmatively, "I told you and you do not believe.” He continued with his explanation: “Because you are not among my sheep, my sheep hear my voice.” The key is that it is people’s decision to close their eyes and hearts, not God’s unwillingness to take the initiative, that leaves people not picking up God’s messages. That Jesus “walks about” means He is still waiting for us today...
