“By your perseverance you will secure your lives.” (Luke 21:19) Destruction of the holy temple, appearance of false prophets, opposition between races and nations, famine and epidemic, betrayal of friends and relatives will all affect our faith toward God. These phenomena are inevitable because the sins of mankind have already flooded the earth. The only salvation can only come from Jesus on the cross. At the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed, “My Father, take this cup away from me.” We can see that men’s sinfulness is so deep-rooted that even Jesus was filled with deep sorrow. However, Jesus overcame temptation and promised to the Father: “not my will, but yours be done.” Jesus wants to help us to overcome difficulties. He asks us to persevere till the very end, having faith continuously. Jesus uses the parable of the seed which is embedded in the soil to bring out the teaching that we should die of our “selves” and receive Jesus, the king of peace, into our hearts. Lord, please untie our innermost knots and let your mercy and forgiveness flow into our hearts!
