“He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive." (Luke 20: 38) No wonder whenever people reported to Jesus that someone had passed away, Jesus always replied, “They fell asleep!” In the thanksgiving prayer of the memorial for the dead, there is a sentence that explains death, and it says: “The life of the dead is just changed, not destroyed.” When Jesus was preaching, He healed many people who were sick, but He always added: “Your faith had saved you!” As you can see, Jesus has a high regard for the spiritual aspect of our life. It does not mean that Jesus thinks that the physical aspect of our life is not important, or else He wouldn’t be healing the sick, and He also took the form of a human body. However, He would like humans to learn His art of living: that there is time to rest during a busy life, that there is time for prayer when making a decision, that there is humor when being doubted by others, and that there is forgiveness when accusing others. The eternal life that Jesus brings has already begun, because when we are living the will of God and when we are living in unconditional love, God is already living in the midst of our lives. “Where there is mercy, there is love, and God will always be there!” The one that we are following is Jesus Christ who is living among us.
