“And when he comes he will convict the world in regard to sin and righteousness and condemnation.” (John 16:8) The mission of the Holy Spirit is to convict that “the sins of the world” are due to unbelief; also he affirms that Jesus’ status is “the son of God”; finally through the death of Jesus, he publicizes the eternal failure of the devil. According to John’s definition: ‘belief’ is not simply a rational act, it is to be close to Jesus: “Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me.” (John 6:45), to own him: “Whoever possesses the Son has life; whoever does not possess the Son of God does not have life.” (1 John 5:12) In the conclusion of John’s gospel, he emphasized the status of Jesus, the ‘Son of God’: “Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of (his) disciples that are not written in this book. But these are written that you may (come to) believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name.” (John 20:30-31) In the revelation of John, he saw Michael overcame the red dragon: “Then war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels battled against the dragon. The dragon and its angels fought back, but they did not prevail and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. The huge dragon, the ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, who deceived the whole world, was thrown down to earth, and its angels were thrown down with it.” (Rev. 12:7-9) Let us continue to listen to John’s thoughts: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.” (John 3:16-21) The teachings of the Holy Spirit are exactly the words that were constantly spoken by Jesus: “It is I. Do not be afraid."
