“But they urged him, ‘Stay with us, for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over.’” (Luke 24;29) Of course, Jesus was delighted to stay as “they approached the village to which they were going, he gave the impression that he was going on farther.” (Luke 24:28) During the whole process, it was Jesus who actively approached the two disciples : “And it happened that while they were conversing and debating, Jesus himself drew near and walked with them.” (Luke 28:15) The actions of “drawing near” and “giving the impression to go on further” express how Jesus loves to walk with the disciples. It also demands that they are equally willing to walk with Jesus. “What man among you having a hundred sheep and losing one of them would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the lost one until he finds it?” (Luke 15:4) Jesus was so considerate in going after these two disciples who had lost faith. Jesus stayed because they “urged” him. So, the kingdom of God has to be taken by force. “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her. “ (Luke 10:41-42) Mary chose “the better part”. This better part is to listen with a heart of calmness and quietness to the Words of God.
