“You are not far from the kingdom of God.” (Mark 12:34) The scribe said to Jesus, “Well said, teacher. You are right in saying, 'He is One and there is no other than he.' And 'to love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself' is worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.” Therefore Jesus said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” The scribes used to preach but did not practice what they said therefore Jesus deliberately reminded the scribe that he has to practice what he preaches in order to enter the kingdom of God. The Gospel of Luke responds in a different tone, “You have answered correctly; do this and you will live.” (Luke 10:28) John the Apostle said, “If anyone says, "I love God," but hates his brother, he is a liar; for whoever does not love a brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.” (1 John 4:20) Is to love really that difficult? After the ancestors had breached the order and were expelled from paradise, then followed Cain as he committed the sin by killing his brother Abel and afterwards the Earth was destroyed in the flood. All these were due to the corruption of mankind. When people abandoned God, the result is mankind losing the original holiness. The only hope of the incarnation of Jesus is to rekindle human’s love and respect to God. In fact, human sight is deceptive. The words that the serpent told Eve still echo to us today. “You certainly will not die! No, God knows well that the moment you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods who know what is good and what is bad.” (Genesis 3:5) Today, many people still believe that they do not need God and can support themselves. They have forgotten that the devil still does not spare humanity and will use every possible means to isolate the relationship between man and God, “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; He will strike at your head, while you strike at his heel.” (Genesis 3:15) That is not true, for humans today still need God even more, needs to believe that without Jesus, we cannot do anything.
