“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.” (Luke 10:2) Jesus’ calling is direct: “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matt. 4:19) but is also full of consolation, like he said to Peter: “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” (Luke 5:10) The duty of a disciple is to become salt and light of the earth, which means to become another Christ! To follow Christ there will be many obstacles: “As they were proceeding on their journey someone said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go." Jesus answered him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head." And to another he said, "Follow me." But he replied, "(Lord,) let me go first and bury my father." But he answered him, "Let the dead bury their dead. But you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God ." And another said, "I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say farewell to my family at home." (To him) Jesus said, "No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God .” (Luke 9:57-62) It is not easy to abandon everything to follow the Lord, but Jesus clearly said to us: “For human beings this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.” (Matt. 19:26) Therefore, we now understand the importance of praying to the master of the harvest (God our father) to send out laborers. Leaving out our Lord, human beings cannot do anything.
