“He appointed twelve that they might be with him and he might send them forth to preach and to have authority to drive out demons.” (Mark 3:14-15) Amongst the twelve appointed by Jesus, Simon Peter was named “the rock”. James and John were named “the sons of thunder” while Simon was named “the Cananean”. It is perceived that each apostle had a unique character and their own apostolic mission. At the same time, they were also filled with human weaknesses. However, to be friends with Jesus, even one’s mind which is hard as stone can nod down his head. On one occasion, many of the disciples left Jesus after they heard him say that whoever does not to eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, will not have life within you. “Jesus then said to the Twelve, "Do you also want to leave?" Simon Peter answered him, "Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God."” (John 6:67-69) After his resurrection, Jesus appeared to the Apostles. On that occasion, Thomas was absent. “But he said to them, "Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nail marks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe." Now a week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, "Peace be with you." Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe." Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord and my God!"” (John 20:25-28) The weakness of the Apostles and their trust are reflections of us in the life of our religion.
