“Behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, "Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage."” (Matthew 2:1-2) According to the notation of Studium Biblicum: The word “Magi” comes from Persian. On one hand they were teaching religious works and on the other hand, they studied astrology. When they came to worship Jesus with the gifts, Jesus was probably around one to two years old. The three Magi represented the three kinds of gifts: gold, frankincense and myrrh. Until the eighth century they were named Caspar、Melchior and Balthasar. At the twelfth century, the “human remains” of the three magi were removed from Milan to the lobby of Cologne. This is merely a record passed on without actual historical proof.(no 2411) Although Jesus Christ is a Jew, His mission is to save all of mankind. Therefore it was not difficult for the Persians to recognize that a great man was to be born in the territory of Judah. “Come to do Him homage” is not a coincidence, but rather it listens to the call of the Holy Spirit. Today, Lord Jesus is waving towards every one of us. He is still waiting for our response. Probably through some sort of accident, friends’ advise, or may be some painful experience, which will help us to change our minds and bring us back to His side.
